Initially, Mikayla covered her head with her blankets and pleaded “I don’t want to have cancer!” But she preserved, and as she began her journey through treatment at Blank Children’s Hospital, a member of Together For Kids, she relied on her own faith to see her through.

Mikayla tells me Chemotherapy is everything anyone ever told you and worse. She experienced sores in her mouth, burns on her feet and hands, fingernails that fell off, fevers, nausea, vomiting and more. Yet amidst the pain, Mikayla managed to stay upbeat. In the halls of Blank Children’s Hospital, people would even comment on her beautiful smile. Mikayla’s story is not only her story but also the story of many children that walk into Together for Kids hospitals. Mikayla is a cancer survivor but not in remission yet.

Support for Together For Kids helps to ensure that hospitals like this one have the resources they need to give Mikayla, and kids just like her, every chance to live a healthy life.
